Dear
Parent:
The
Pittsburg Parents Project is part of a growing number of parents and teachers
who believe that our children aren't being well served by the stripped down
standards of the state. Our children are no longer receiving the adequate tools
necessary for problem solving such as creative or critical thinking. Nor are
they asked. Simply put, they are being undereducated
If
you suspect your child is learning less than you did at his/her age, you are
not alone in this thought. The
California Board of Education has been systematically dismantling what used to
be referred to as basic education, mostly due to the No Child Left Behind
policy, teachers have been "teaching to the statewide test." They
have created a system that has "streamlined" the foundation of
elementary school education i.e. penmanship, history and science.
Education
is normally taught through constant practice and attention is given to
comprehension. There is a certainly overemphasis on math and reading (spelling
and basic grammar) and little time is given to current events, history, or
reading comprehension (which includes critical thinking and creative thought). This
may be because students are only tested reading and, therefore the subjects
given priority and, in some cases, are almost exclusively taught in the
classroom.
When
was the last time your child came home with a homework assignment that required
him/her to do a book report, or research on any topic? OR When is the last time
you saw your child's corresponding class work? Your child's homework should be
a result of the work they are tackling in class they should have a notebook
filled with introductions to all topics of learning. These are the kind
assignments that help to reinforce your child's grasp on comprehension. Is that happening in your child's class?
Once
a great institution public schools have historically turned out America’s best!
So
how did we get here? Students are haphazardly taught how to answer a question,
or series of questions, rather than to think. Schools now ration out education
like and underfunded orphanage sparsely doling out education like a cold
porridge in a dirty bowl and daring our families to ask for more.
Well!
It's time that we stop asking for more timidly, and start demanding that our
children be educated!
Demand
that YOUR CHILD'S EDUCATION not be turned into a farce. We send our children to
school so that they can one day have great futures. We do NOT send our children
to school to become mindless drowns that will one day grow up and ask us if we
want "fries with that shake."
Our
children deserve a proper education.
The
Parent Project!

The pittsburg school district is identified as a Program Improvement (PI) school! Which is under the NCLB act. It has not made adequate yearly progress in over two consecutive years! Guess it is up to the parents to teach their child in this district!
